Privacy Policy

Overview

Encoder.guru ("we", "us", "the site") provides free, browser-based developer tools at https://encoder.guru. Privacy is central to how the site is built: the data you enter into a tool is processed on your own device and is not sent to us. This policy explains what limited information is collected automatically when you visit, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using the site, you agree to the practices described here.

The data you enter into tools stays on your device

Almost every tool on Encoder.guru runs entirely in your browser using client-side technologies. Any text you paste, files you drop, keys you generate or documents you process are handled locally and are not uploaded to a server, stored by us, or logged. We do not receive, retain or have any access to the content you work with in the tools. When you close or refresh the page, that data is gone.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we use a privacy-conscious analytics service to understand aggregate usage — for example, which tools are popular and how many people visit. This is provided by Google Analytics 4. It may collect standard technical information such as your approximate (city-level) location, browser and device type, referring page and the pages you view. We enable IP-address anonymisation, so your full IP address is not stored by the analytics service. This data is aggregated and is used only to improve the site; it is not used to identify you personally.

Cookies and local storage

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. Encoder.guru and its providers use them for a few purposes: to remember your preferences (for example, your light or dark theme choice is saved in your browser's local storage), to gather anonymous analytics, and to serve advertising. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time; disabling them will not stop the tools from working, though some preferences may not be remembered.

Advertising and Google AdSense

Encoder.guru is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

For more information on how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see Google's Privacy & Terms.

Third-party links

Some pages link to external websites (for example, documentation or the opt-out tools above). We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites, and we encourage you to review their own privacy policies.

Children's privacy

Encoder.guru is a general-audience developer utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will address it.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to access, correct or delete personal data and to opt out of personalised advertising. Because the tools themselves do not collect your data, most of these rights relate to the analytics and advertising cookies described above, which you can control through your browser and the opt-out links provided. To make a request or ask a question, contact us using the details below.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the site or to legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
