Why count words?

Word count matters for many writing contexts: blog posts perform best between 1,500–2,500 words for SEO, social media posts have platform limits, academic essays have minimum requirements, and email subject lines ideally stay under 60 characters. This tool gives you all the stats you need at a glance.

How is reading time calculated?

The average adult reads about 238 words per minute (wpm) for non-technical content. Speaking pace is approximately 130 wpm. Fast readers may hit 400+ wpm. You can adjust the WPM slider to match your audience.

How are sentences counted?

Sentences are counted by splitting on sentence-ending punctuation (., !, ?). Abbreviations and decimals are handled by filtering out splits followed by a lowercase letter.

What does keyword density mean?

Keyword density is the percentage of times a specific word appears relative to the total word count. An ideal keyword density for SEO is 1–3%. Higher than 5% may be flagged as keyword stuffing.

Does this tool count characters with or without spaces?

Both. The "Characters" stat includes spaces; "No spaces" strips all whitespace first. Twitter's 280 character limit counts spaces; some platforms count only non-whitespace characters.
