What are HTML meta tags?
Meta tags are HTML elements placed in the <head> section of a web page. They provide metadata about the page to search engines and social media platforms. The three most important are: title (shown in search results and browser tabs), description (the summary shown below the search result), and the Open Graph tags that control how your page looks when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, and other platforms.
What is the ideal meta description length?
Google typically displays 120–160 characters of the meta description in search results. Anything longer gets truncated. Aim for a compelling 1–2 sentence summary that includes your target keyword.
Do meta keywords still matter for SEO?
No. Google and Bing have officially ignored the keywords meta tag since 2009. However, some minor search engines and CMS systems still use it, so it doesn't hurt to include relevant terms.
What image size works best for Open Graph?
The recommended OG image size is 1200×630 pixels at a 1.91:1 ratio. Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter all use this as the default. The minimum is 600×315 pixels.
