What is a color palette?
A color palette is a set of colors chosen to work harmoniously together in a design. Good palettes follow color theory principles: complementary colors (opposite on the color wheel), analogous colors (adjacent), triadic (three evenly spaced), and split-complementary (a base + two colors adjacent to its complement).
What is the difference between a shade and a tint?
A tint is a color mixed with white (lighter), while a shade is a color mixed with black (darker). Tones add gray. Design systems like Tailwind and Material Design use a 50–950 scale of tints and shades for each color.
What are complementary colors?
Complementary colors are directly opposite each other on the color wheel. They create maximum contrast and visual vibration when used together. For example, blue and orange, red and green, yellow and purple.
